The TV's the Babysitter?

I have been thinking a lot about TV and children since our class this week.  I was surprised to learn that it is suggested that children under two don't watch any TV.  In our current world that just seems so unrealistic.  I do think that it is probably fine in moderation, but I want to do my best to limit the TV my future kids watch.  I brought this up at home and talked to my roommate this issue. We discussed how tempting it was to just turn on a movie when we used to babysit.  It made things easy and the kids loved it.  Back then, I was only watching kids for maybe 4 hours tops before they went to bed.  It made me think a lot about what I am going to do when I am a mom.  I will be with my kids pretty much all the time before they begin school and I never want to consider the TV to be a convenient and always-available babysitter, even if it does make my life easier!

  1. I agree with you on this! I think TV is so convenient lots of people (especially moms) don't realize or think about the effect watching lots of TV can have. I know it's possible to bring up babies without having them watch TV; my mom was able to do it, so she's my example. I just hope to stick to it!
